Update 5:17 PM: Jeter had an MRI today and it was negative. Probably will go day-to-day with him. He wanted to play today.
UPDATE, 5:40 p.m.: We just spoke to Jeter, who said he wanted to play but admitted he had some difficulty running last night. He hopes to be able to play tomorrow and will be receiving treatment.Xavier Nady is headed for Tampa tomorrow and the plan is for him to play four innings in right field on Friday. He has not let a throw go yet but believes his elbow is at 85-90 percent.
Update 5:54 PM: This is hilarious. Brian Cashman is holding a press conference for Spanish-speaking reporters and it’s being broadcast to the press box. He is giving answers through a translator. Apparently C-Money took some truth serum before he sat down. He has so far said:
• Damaso Marte may need surgery on his shoulder to figure out what his wrong.
• Brian Bruney “lied” to him about his elbow. “It drives me nuts,” Cashman said. Cashman said he went to Scranton to see Bruney’s rehab the first time around. “It was a waste of a two-and-half-hour drive,” he said. He compared injured players to pets because they can’t or won’t tell you what is wrong.
• Cashman said the team is better with Cabrera in center and Swisher in right. Not with Brett Gardner in the lineup.

Play by Play of the game will be on the blog. Updated every half an inning.

He did an excellent job today, eventhough it wouldn't have mattered in the end. He had better stuff than what he had at Boston and got himself out of trouble. 7 scoreless innings for Burnett and struck out a tie for his season high 8. Control was iffy but managed a solid game.

Updates
UPDATE, 5:13 p.m.: Sounds like Brian Bruney could be activated tomorrow. They’re discussing it now.
UPDATE, 5:57 p.m.: Johnny Damon is out of the lineup for assorted reasons. He hasn’t played well of late and he said his eyes have ben “fluttering.” Damon said he felt like he was going to pass out on the field last night. He wondered whether it was a lingering side effect of the concussion he suffered five years ago. He’s getting checked out today and said he is available.

Girardi said Brad Penny threw at A-Rod on purpose and should be disciplined by MLB. He also hinted the Yankees could be waiting for payback. … The Yankees had their flight delayed last night and most of the players didn’t arrive home until 4:30 p.m. … Sounds like Xavier Nady is still a ways off. “Good days and bad days,” he said. X did not sound particularly confident in his ability to throw. …

There will be Play by Play of the game on the blog at the end of each half an inning if you can't watch or listen to the game. So lets see if the Yankees can turn their energy toward beating the Mets, after their 0-8 start vs Boston this year.

Game Recap

New York, New York- Melky Cabrera, this year at least, is known as "mr.clutch". Today. that clutchness continued for the Melkster as he hit a 2-run HR in the Bottom of the 8th to help the Yankees win 8-6. Mark Teixeira, also came up clutch, when the Yankees were down 5-1 in the 5th, with the bases loaded, no outs and he cleared the bases with a double down the left field line. Chien Ming Wang started good but in the 3rd and 4th innings, he really struggled. He was wild those 2 innings, but was on a strict pitch count so he couldn't get through the 5th inning. Johnny Damon led off the game with a HR to get the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Texas came through with some cheaply hits and walks and crawled to a 5-1 lead. Then, Tex came through with his hit. For the Yankees, it was their 19th come from behind win of the season. The Yankees win the series 2 games to 1 and now will host Tampa starting tommorow with David Price, the Rays top pitching prospect, vs the Yankee Ace CC Sabathia.

Minor League Update Tommorow.

Good night everyone

Pat Venditte came on in the 12th and got the save(16). He struck out 2 and allowed a hit in the inning, striking out a guy looking to close the game.

Thanks to pete for the updates
UPDATE, 4:30 p.m.: Wang starts tomorrow. More to come later. Hughes to bullpen.
UPDATE, 4:49 p.m.: Hughes is a temporary bullpen fix, Cashman said. He’ll be a starter long term.
UPDATE 5:26 PM: Espn Radio 1050 reported Wang will be on a 75 to 85 pitch count tommorow. Cashman is on the Michael Kay show now.
Cash summary",2 weeks they will decide what there gonna do with Hughes, as Bruney rehabs. for now he’ll be in the Pen. They gonna stretch him out. So he might go back to AAA. Hughes can be either long man or short man, depending on how Girardi uses him. But wants to put him as long man, not put too much pressure on Hughes. They can also go to a 6 man rotation. No thought ever of Joba to the pen. Always would be starting. It is irritating for Cashman, always hearing about Joba to the pen, as he is a Legit starter. Joba has outpitched AJ at this point. Marte Bullpen session on Friday. The team really communicates with each other, yesterday was another example of how real the chemistry is. Padilla had nasty stuff yesterday.
UPDATE, 6:06 p.m.: Teixeira has been scratched for a bruised right ankle, the result of last night’s takeout slide of Elvis Andrus. X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day.
UPDATE, 6:40 p.m.: Looks like they’re getting ready to pull the tarp. We could have baseball this evening.
UPDATE, 6:48 p.m.: First pitch at 7:15 p.m.
